  • Sea bass muscle bioactive peptidome (2020): Native-peptide discovery workflow combining suspect-screening for short peptides (2-4 aa, including modified aminoacyl derivatives) with database + de novo sequencing for medium-sized peptides (2,665 identified by de novo alone) from sea bass muscle, generalising to any food-matrix bioactive-peptide search.
  • Hellbender skin AMPs (2026): Bioprospects the skin secretions of Cryptobranchus alleganiensis, the hellbender salamander, for antimicrobial peptide candidates. Solid-phase extraction enrichment and Orbitrap Fusion acquisition, PEAKS de novo sequencing of the secretion peptides, then antimicrobial prediction over the de novo sequences. The third GMU host-defence peptide record in the catalog, alongside the red-legged salamander and hemp seed abstracts from the same lab.
  • Cricket hydrolysate immunomodulatory peptides (2026): Sequence-resolved workflow for finding immunomodulatory peptides in cricket protein hydrolysate, an alternative-protein food ingredient. The hydrolysate is analysed without a proteolytic digest (PEAKS run with a non-specific enzyme setting) on a Q Exactive, and sequenced de novo with PEAKS to 25,582 assignments at ALC above 50%. Those are filtered to unmodified peptides scoring above 80 that together account for 95% of total abundance (n = 3231), then prioritised by structure-based screening against the STAT3 SH2 domain and molecular dynamics. Selected synthetic peptides reduced LPS-induced IL-6 and TNF-alpha secretion in BV2 microglia, and the hydrolysate itself reduced STAT3 phosphorylation. The paper labels the MS step ‘de novo peptidomics’; its own methods and results call the same operation de novo sequencing, so the phrase denotes de novo sequencing of an undigested peptidome rather than a broader pipeline.
  • Hemp seed antimicrobial peptides (2026): Screens HAN-J6 hemp seed (Cannabis sativa L.) protein for antimicrobial peptides, a source not previously characterised this way. Defatting, alkaline extraction and acid precipitation, then trypsin/Lys-C digestion and LC-MS; PEAKS 12 de novo sequencing returned 3,985 peptides, and CAMP R3 and AMP Scanner_V2 screened the ALC>=80% list to 56 and 260 candidates respectively, 27 of which both tools agreed on.
  • Red-legged salamander skin AMPs (2026): Looks for antimicrobial peptides in red-legged salamander skin secretions, where amphibian work has concentrated on frogs and toads and salamander secretions are barely characterised. nanoLC-MS/MS with PEAKS de novo sequencing found 135 unique peptides across four injections, of which CAMP-R3 and AMP Scanner predicted 36 to be antimicrobial.
